Two things about that table are worth saying plainly.
The bands overlap on purpose. A ten-page business site with a booking engine and a payment step costs more than a twenty-page brochure site with neither. Page count is the weakest predictor of price on the list, and page count is the number most buyers lead with.
The top of each band is not a warning label. The top of each band is what the same website costs once it has to survive real traffic, hold real data, and talk to something you already run.
What you are actually paying for
A website quote is one number covering at least seven distinct pieces of work. When an agency will not break the number out, you cannot tell which piece they have quietly dropped.

The integration row surprises people. Connecting a website to a system that publishes a documented Application Programming Interface (API) is routine work. Connecting a website to a system that does not publish one is a research project with a build attached, and no honest agency can price that accurately before looking.
Scale gives a sense of what sits at the far end. That is not a website with extra pages. It is a product, and it is priced like one.
Why do two quotes for the same website differ by four times?
Because the two quotes describe different websites. One agency has read “company website” as five pages on a bought template, populated by you, delivered in three weeks. The other has read the same brief as custom design, an editable content system, structured search markup, a content migration and three months of support. Both readings are legitimate.
Only one of those readings matches what you meant, and the fix is to make both proposals describe the same thing before you compare price. Ask each vendor, in writing, for the number of unique page templates, who writes the content, how many revision rounds are included, and how long support runs after launch.
The gap usually closes to something reasonable. Where the gap does not close, you have learned something useful about one of the two vendors.
How long does a website take to build in Ahmedabad?

Content is where projects slip. A ten-page site needs ten pages of copy, and when that copy is coming from you, the schedule belongs to you as much as to the agency. Decide before kick-off who writes it, and put a date on it.
Approval is the other silent delay. A design that takes four days to review instead of one adds three days per round, and there are usually three rounds. That is close to two weeks of calendar time nobody has budgeted and nobody is at fault for.
What pushes an estimate up by 40 percent
These changes move a number materially rather than marginally. Each one is cheap to decide before the project starts and expensive to decide halfway through.
- Adding authenticated user accounts. Login brings password handling, sessions, permissions, account recovery and a security surface that all needs testing.
- Adding a payment step. Gateway integration, tax and shipping calculation, failure states, refunds, and reconciliation with whatever you use for accounts.
- Adding a second language. Every template, every string, every image with text baked in, plus an ongoing translation workflow.
- Migrating a large legacy site. Old web addresses need mapping to new ones, and the mapping is manual whenever the old structure was inconsistent.
- Building a custom admin panel rather than using a standard content system. Often the single largest hidden line in a quote.
- Changing design direction after build has started. The frontend is rebuilt, and the design work is paid for twice.
Platform choice belongs on this list too, because the platform changes both the build cost and the cost of every change afterwards. A content-managed marketing site and a custom application have different economics, which is worth understanding before you brief anyone. Single-page applications deserve a specific caution. Single-page applications were historically awkward to measure for real-user performance, and Google’s Chrome team only shipped the interfaces that make measurement possible in Chrome 151, in August 2026 (opens in a new tab). If your site is built that way, budget for measurement, not only for build.
Image-heavy sites carry their own tax. According to the 2024 Web Almanac, cited by Google’s Chrome team, 73% of mobile pages have an image as their largest visible element (opens in a new tab), which is why catalogue and gallery sites need real image engineering rather than an upload form. That applies squarely to eCommerce website development, where the catalogue is the site.
The costs that arrive after launch
The quote is the first year’s largest line, not the budget. A website is an operating cost with a large first instalment.
Recurring items, in India, usually include:
- Domain renewal, annually, priced by the registrar and the extension.
- Hosting, priced by traffic and by how much computation the site does rather than by page count.
- Third-party licences: content system plugins, search, email delivery, analytics beyond the free tier.
- Payment gateway charges, taken per transaction, which are a revenue cost rather than a technology cost.
- Maintenance: security patching, dependency updates, backups, uptime monitoring.
- Change requests: the new page, the new form, the campaign landing page.
Tax sits alongside those. Website development is supplied as an information technology service in India and is taxable under the Goods and Services Tax (GST), so check whether a quote is inclusive or exclusive before treating two quotes as equal. Here is the reframe that matters. Take an illustrative business website in India quoted at ₹1,00,000 to build. Assume modest hosting and domain renewal, a small monthly maintenance retainer, and two or three change requests a year. Over three years, the running side of that website can approach or exceed the build itself.
That is not an argument against building well. It is an argument for asking what year two costs before you sign for year one, because a cheaper build with higher change friction often loses on the three-year number.
What India’s data protection law adds to the bill
If your website collects personal data, and a contact form collects personal data, this section is a budget line.
The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) (opens in a new tab) is Act No. 22 of 2023 and sets the framework for processing digital personal data in India. That link opens a PDF. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) notified the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025 on 13 November 2025 (opens in a new tab), also a PDF, with commencement staggered. The substantive obligations on organisations handling personal data commence on 13 May 2027.
Three things follow in build terms:
- Publish an itemised privacy notice, in plain language, saying what you collect and why.
- Capture consent and make it withdrawable, which means the withdrawal path has to exist in the product, not only in the policy.
- Set retention and deletion rules, so the site knows how long it keeps data and can remove it.
Performance and search: cheap to build in, expensive to retrofit
Google measures three real-user metrics, the Core Web Vitals. Per Google’s Chrome team on web.dev, updated 31 October 2024, the good thresholds are 2.5 seconds for Largest Contentful Paint, 200 milliseconds for Interaction to Next Paint and 0.1 for Cumulative Layout Shift (opens in a new tab), each assessed at the 75th percentile of page loads. Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) measures how fast the main content appears and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) measures how much the layout jumps while loading. Interaction to Next Paint (INP) measures the delay across every interaction on the page (opens in a new tab), not only the first one, which makes INP the hardest of the three to pass.
Those thresholds are not arbitrary. Google sets each one so that at least 10% of origins can already meet it (opens in a new tab), which is why the thresholds are demanding without being unreachable.
Google Search Central documentation, updated 10 December 2025, states that Core Web Vitals are used by its ranking systems (opens in a new tab). Know which metric you are being sold on: INP replaced First Input Delay (FID) on 12 March 2024 (opens in a new tab), so any proposal still quoting FID targets is working from stale guidance.
The commercial point is about sequencing. Semantic markup, image handling, layout stability and clean web addresses cost very little as decisions taken at architecture stage. Bolting them onto a finished site means touching the templates, the build pipeline and often the content model.

How do you compare two website quotes properly?
Put both proposals against the same seven questions and send them as an email. Any vendor worth hiring answers in writing. The questions cover template count, content responsibility, revision rounds, search structure, support window, code ownership and exclusions. Together they turn two unlike numbers into two comparable ones.
- How many unique page templates, as distinct from total pages?
- Who writes and uploads the content, and by when?
- How many revision rounds are included, and what happens after that?
- Is search structure part of the build, or a separate line?
- How long is the support window after launch, and what does it cover?
- Who owns the source code, the design files and the accounts, once the final invoice is paid?
- What is excluded: domain, hosting, licences, gateway charges?
Question six is the one people skip and regret. Settle ownership before the first payment, not during handover.
Be sceptical of anyone selling a ranking outcome. Google’s own page experience documentation says that good results in the Core Web Vitals report do not guarantee that pages will rank at the top (opens in a new tab), and Google’s search advocates have made the same point repeatedly in public. Performance work is a quality signal, not a lever that lifts rankings on its own.
